make your own inhaler with doTERRA essential oilsWhen I first saw this suggestion, I have to admit, I thought it was crazy!

My mind was trying to find an answer to the question “If you’re going to make an inhaler like this, why not just carry the bottle of respiratory blend around and sniff it whenever you need to? Why not just use it as we’ve been told and put a drop in your palms, rub them together, and inhale?”

I guess I was being idealistic. This is a perfect way to get the best use out of 5 drops of the respiratory blend! Just find a container small enough – something about the size of a lip balm container, or even smaller, and you have a handy dandy inhaler that you can carry around with you at all times. You don’t have to worry about pulling our your big bottle of oil, which could spill if you’re clumsy like me! You don’t even need two hands to rub together! Just pull out whatever container you have used and sniff away!

Homemade inhaler

Respiratory blend –  5 drops
1/4 teaspoon coarse salt

Place salt in sealable container, drip oils over the salt. The salt will absorb the oils, retaining the smell. Open lid and sniff as necessary.

I’m not going to lie. I have a bunch of those perfume sample vials hanging around. I made my inhaler from that, and just cut off the pokey applicator!

(You could also use a pre-made Aromatherapy Inhalers.)

A word about our respiratory blend

My favorite respiratory blend helps to ease congestion, open airways, reduce coughing, and much more. It is a blend of  Eucalyptus Radiata, Laurel leaf, Lemon, Melaleuca Alternifolia, Peppermint and Ravensara essential oils, and you can send me a message if you’d like to find out more, or purchase the blend.

  1. I used to do the “steam treatment”. I’d put a towel over my head while leaning over the pan of steam. Then one day, my arm touched the side of the scalding hot pan. It’s been 5 years and I still have a scar. Next time I am going to use your method :)
